The next Dedham Vale Dark Skies event will be on Friday 24th October 2025, trying to find comets in the evening skies. This will be an observing only event and will be subject to weather conditions.
There are currently two easily visible comets in the night skies: Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon a naked eye object in the North West and Comet C/2025 R2 Swan which needs binoculars or a telescope to view.
The Dedham Vale Dark Skies have an exciting new observing field that they will be using for this event in Thorington Street which allows both parking and viewing at the same location. Full details will be emailed when you book.
Booking
Please book in advance to allow the organisers to have an idea of the number of guests to expect. Just email [email protected] with the number in your party.
Upon receipt detailed directions to get to us will be sent. Organisers will confirm by email on Friday morning if the forecast weather conditions will allow the event will go ahead.
Cost
This is a FREE event taking place at Thorington Street, CO6 4SS, but there will be a voluntary donation jar to help cover our costs.
About The Event
There is ample parking for about 40 cars. When parking please back in so that you do not illuminate the field if you leave before everyone else. Also if possible please leave using side lights until you clear the exit.
Please note that it will be dark and the ground is a little uneven. You can bring a low powered torch (preferable with a red light) which should be pointed towards the ground at all times. The ground underfoot is reasonably flat and well drained so normal outdoor footwear is suitable.
