Each year DarkSky International encourages its community of partners, and International Dark Sky Places to organise events that share the wonder and importance of the night during this special week.
The International Dark Sky Week runs from 13th to 20th April this year. To celebrate International Dark Skies this year, the Dedham Vale Dark Skies will be holding a Dark Skies Fair at the Dark Sky Discovery Centre in Thorington Street starting at 5pm on Saturday 18th April.

Starting at 5pm there will be a talk about Planets suitable for attendees of all ages, especially the younger ones. In between talks there will be activities for children and demonstrations/walk throughs of different types of telescope.
At 6:30 there will be a talk about travelling to Dark Skies with a telescope. Exploring some of the darkest places in the eorld.
The last talk at 7:30 will step outside our Galaxy and look at some of the spectacular Galaxies in our vast Universe.
After the talks at around 8:30, you will be able to use some telescopes and see some of the wonders of the Universe that have been introduced during the talks.
There will also have FREE Tea and Coffee available between talks. There will also be experts on hand to answer your questions about everything to do with the night skies and the gear used to view them.
Please feel free to come and go for the various talks and events. If you have your own telescope you can bring it along and our resident astronomers will help you out with some tips and hints about how to get the best out of it.
Whilst booking is not essential it would be helpful for us to gauge numbers in attendance and ensure they have enough parking spaces available, so please email [email protected]. More details will be posted closer to the event on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DVDarkSkies
