Principal photography on a much-anticipated Suffolk-produced feature film has concluded with the final scenes shot in Flatford by Willy Lott’s Cottage – a scene famously immortalised by John Constable’s Landscape painted ‘The Hay Wain’.
The story focuses on ‘The Painters’ John Constable and his friend John Dunthorne, both of whom lived in East Bergholt at the turn of the 18th century. The story is based around the two friends as they compete to impress a young lady in need of a new portrait.
The tale was penned by City of Colchester Councillor Darius Laws, who represents the villages north of Colchester, following a call for scripts from East Anglia based creative talent.
Cllr Darius Laws said: “Living in the heart of the Dedham Vale National Landscape is a privilege and I am so excited to have played a small part in celebrating the nation’s greatest landscape painter who lived and breathed this place of ours.
It is not by chance that we have this incredible landscape, many volunteers, councillors and community-minded folks work hard to ensure we protect this area and keep it beautiful’
The film is currently in post-production and is set for a regional cinema release in 2025. For further details search the internet for ‘Once Upon a Time in Suffolk’.
